► Background

Hubert Pot. Son of wealthy casino chain owner Jack. Ever since his father introduced him to the concept of numbers, Hubert never stopped thinking about them. The endless combinations, the consistency with which they appeared. The sequencing was just too perfect. The same thing every time, yet different outcomes can appear at any moment. Something about it was tantalizing. At a very young age, Hubert was introduced to the family business of gambling through his making constant wagers with the other children around him in school and he quickly gained notoriety as someone never to make a bet with. He had a certain luck about him, where everything most often seemed to work out in his favor. Nobody knew how he managed to do it. But almost any bet that Hubert made, he would win. Each successive bet that worked out in his favor only served to reinforce his obsession.

Eventually this obsession grew, and Hubert found that any moment he wasn't able to gamble in some way, he would become distracted, and unable to function properly. With his father's help, they created a little device that Hubert would carry with him forever. A handheld slots machine, and with the press of just one little button, Hubert could instantly satiate his nagging brain begging for more numbers to be seen, more outcomes to be had. More gambling to be done.

As much as people look at Hubert and see a degenerate gambler addicted to the grind. On the inside, it's quite difficult for Hubert to function on a normal basis without his gambling. In a sense it's a sort of mechanism towards gaining greater control of himself. As without it, his ability to process the world around him is severely hampered by an ever growing urge in his mind to have more numbers in front of him. As he grew older and became an adult, the urges became easier to control at the very least, and eventually Hubert even found himself able to communicate and exist in society at large so long as he satiated his need every so often rather than constantly. It took a great deal of work to get to that point, but even then, Hubert still manages to find trouble when it comes to his gambling issues.

Hubert experienced his first major loss one unfortunate day, while gambling in his father's biggest casino, he stood by his father's side as he watched him put everything on green at a roulette table. At first, this didn't phase Hubert, as going all in was not uncommon around those parts. But what Hubert didn't realize was what his father truly meant by "everything." The wheel began to spin, and the slower the wheel turned, the slower time became as Hubert stared intently at the arrow indicating what the result would be. Red, Black, Red, Black, Red, Black, Red, Black, Red, Black, Red, Black, Green…Red.

Hubert had never seen his father lose a bet before, and in that moment he saw someone he did not recognize, as his father fell to his knees, looking ghostly pale. Hubert then asked his father what he meant when he said he bet everything, and all his father could do was look at his son and say "Everything…" before he fell to the ground, deceased. Hubert stood and watched in horror as his father's very soul was extracted from his body and given to the winner of the bet, a short man by the name of Don, who had two tall henchmen on either side acting as his personal protection. Don looked at Hubert and said to him "You are mine now." But Hubert was not about to take such a loss idly. He slammed his fists on the table and screamed "One more bet! Double or nothing!" Don agreed to the terms and the next few minutes became a blur. A series of minutes which Hubert would not recall as the next thing he knew, he awoke in a completely different area, face down in the dirt of an old alleyway. Being awoken by another man of shorter stature by the name of Frank.

All Hubert could think about at that moment was needing to satiate his urge to gamble, and it began tearing him up inside, as he could not find his handheld slots device given to him by his Father. Then things started all coming back to him and he realized he was left with nothing. Consequently he begged Frank for any amount of money, as sweat began to develop across Hubert's entire body, the world becoming too stimulating as his mind raced with more and more numbers. Despite his desperation however, on the outside Hubert managed to maintain a very calm composure, and in reality, rather than begging, Hubert simply remarked to Frank that he bet he could turn whatever little money Frank had on him into a life changing amount of money. Not thinking twice about it, Frank obliged and gave Hubert what little money he had on him. This would turn the night into one the pair would not forget, as Hubert went on a long winning streak at the nearest Casino they could find. However, after one too many wins, the House began to grow suspicious and they kicked the duo out of the Casino entirely. As luck would have it, upon being thrown out onto the street, the pair would be face to face with Don and his henchmen, who had quite the bone to pick with Hubert.

"You's owe me money still from our last bet, boy." Don said. Hubert reluctantly handed over what money they just made from their winnings. Don looked it over and chuckled, saying it was not nearly enough to cover what was owed, and with one swift nod, the two henchmen following Don began to brutally beat Hubert in the street. In that moment Hubert looked to his side and saw Frank, his only friend left, running away. It was then that Hubert resigned himself to his fate, and figured this could be a release from his constant mental anguish over needing to gamble. Yet something deep within Hubert held out hope, as he thought to himself "I bet Frank will come back for me…"

The next thing Hubert knew, he opened his eyes to see the henchmen and even Don delivering a beating to Frank. Before he passed out once more from the pain of his own beating. He would once more awake in a local hospital, being tended to by the local healers alongside Frank, who said he was going to leave him there as he tried to raise more money to repair Hubert's kneecaps which were shattered completely by Don's guards. A decent amount of time would pass since then, and eventually Hubert managed to gamble with the staff and others hospitalized there enough to the point of raising enough money for his own new knees. Upon getting them surgically repaired, he would go on to join Frank in the Arena, where they would form the Season 3 Grand Ball Cup Team, The Numbers. After their eventual defeat however, Hubert then decided to use some of the extra money he had from gambling to hire the Arena's head chef, Fiorella, to join their Boss Gauntlet team, forming Cooking the Books.

► Abilities & Traits
Unarmed
Weapon

Unarmed use their bodies primarily to do damage. Any contact with an unarmed body does damage to another ball, with unarmed collisions rewarding the faster ball with doing damage.

Gamble
Active

Hubert rerolls the amount of damage he does each and every time he hits someone between 0 and 50. This can result in potentially almost two shot killing an opponent, but sometimes can result in several hits for low damage value. The higher the number the less likely it is to be pulled.

The Bad Roll (0) (~1% Chance) — Should Hubert roll a 0, he will take 50 Damage instantly.
Low Tier Roll (1–15) (~83% Chance)
Medium Tier Roll (16–30) (~10% Chance)
High Tier Roll (31–49) (~5% Chance)
Jackpot Roll (50) (~1% Chance)

Unarmed Speed Ramp
Passive

All Unarmed have a passive speed gain, that resets upon taking or making a hit.

► Balancing Changes

Season 3 (Debut)

Ball debuts with the following base stats:
Damage on Hit: Randomized every hit between 1–50, higher numbers have lower chances of being rolled.

Season 4 - 1v1

CHANGE: Shortened the length of the slot numbers rolling. This should create less time that Hubert is intangible.

Season 4 - Boss Battles

BUFF: Odds tweaked to favor slightly higher numbers.
