Trax Carter never had any intention of joining the Arena. In fact, he quite enjoyed the life he led, roaming the world planted firmly on his track. He saw sights untold, and the beauty of the land around him, and it brought him peace. Whether it was the gentle breeze of the air rushing past him as he moved along, or perhaps the sounds of nature. Leaves in trees blowing gently, birds calling to one another. Trax truly felt best when in the solitude of being alone with the world. The landscape was like a canvas, and Trax was the paintbrush, and he was determined to explore every corner of the world, and his life would be the painting.
During one of his travels, he came across a very worried and haggard looking man who would introduce himself as Gorty, who pleaded with Trax to assist him. There was a lot of rambling Trax didn't quite understand, something about clones Gorty made that escaped and needed to find them. Not wanting to just leave him in the middle of nowhere, Trax allowed him to come along. After some hours of travel, Gorty informed Trax of a grave threat the entire world would possibly face if they couldn't find the clones he was searching for. To try and lure the clones out of hiding, Gorty suggested joining the newly announced Grand Ball Cup Tournament, and, not wanting to see the potential destruction of the land he loves, Trax agreed to join, hoping to improve his own skills, and learn more about this potential destroyer of everything he holds dear.
The two would enter the tournament under the team name, CloneTracks. While they would see a win during their first fight, Gorty's condition would rapidly deteriorate as the days passed. By the time of their second fight, he visibly seemed very sick and his clones looked like mutated versions of themselves. After their eventual elimination from the tournament after losing the rest of their matches, Trax would last see Gorty in his room at the Arena's medical center. Who gave Trax a small pill, saying that he needed to take it or else their chances of stopping whatever threat was coming would be slim. Very reluctantly, Trax agreed to do so, and after saying goodbye to Gorty, that would be the last time he would see him in the flesh since then.
Trax would return to his living quarters in the Arena facility, and the next thing he knew he would get violently sick. His head began to hurt intensely and he barely felt as though he could stand. In that moment he felt like a fool for taking the pill of a seemingly dying man who fell victim to his own ambition. But just as soon as he thought that, suddenly the pain went away, and he felt much better. Yet at the same time, he suddenly gained much of the knowledge that Gorty himself had. At that moment, Trax saw it in his mind's eye. The destroyer of the world. Something so frightening that Trax couldn't find it in him to even speak another word. Though he noticed behind him were several much smaller but identical clones of himself. Just standing there silently. Trax thought to himself and realized he could essentially will these clones into and out of existence with ease. They seemingly had no sentience yet they could do all the same things Trax could when instructed.
Many began to notice that since that day, Trax doesn't ever interact with anyone else. He spends his days chugging along his track just outside and around the Arena. No one knows if he is just depressed, or if something deeper is happening. But eventually another competitor in the roster, Bates, took notice of the rather out of it looking Trax, and asked him if he would be willing to form a team with him to go down into the Gauntlet. Trax initially said nothing, but then looked at Bates with lifeless looking eyes and simply said. "I don't think we can do it. But I have to try."
Trax looks at this whole situation in a very zero sum fashion. Either he can defeat whatever evil will threaten the lands he seeks to defend, or he himself will be destroyed trying. Trax descends the Gauntlet alongside his team, Infrastructure, more determined than perhaps any other competitor.
